In a remarkable triumph that has inspired a nation, 17-year-old Nafisa Abdullah Aminu from Yobe State, Nigeria, has risen to global acclaim after clinching the top prize in the English Language Skills category at the 2025 TeenEagle Global Finals held in London, United Kingdom.

Representing Nigeria through the Nigerian Tulip International College (NTIC), Nafisa outshone over 20,000 competitors from 69 countries, including English-speaking nations like the United States, the UK, and Australia, securing the title of World Best in English Language Skills. Her win not only showcases individual brilliance but also challenges the global narrative around educational achievement in Africa.

TeenEagle is one of the world’s most prestigious academic competitions, testing students in English proficiency, critical thinking, and communication. Known for its rigorous selection process and international standard, the competition attracts elite students from across the globe.

Nafisa’s victory has sent waves of celebration across Nigeria, especially in Yobe State, where her journey began. Her family, speaking through the family head, Hassan Salifu, described her success as a product of relentless dedication and an environment that fosters academic growth.

“This outstanding feat is a result of hard work, discipline, and the growing commitment to education in Yobe State,” Salifu said. “It would not have been possible without the enabling environment created by Governor Mai Mala Buni, whose investment in education is yielding global dividends.”

Observers and educators alike have hailed Nafisa’s success as a testament to the quality of teaching at NTIC and the hidden potential across Nigeria’s public education system when given the right support. Her ability to outshine students from native English-speaking countries underscores the global competitiveness of Nigerian students.

Beyond academic circles, her triumph has ignited a wave of national pride, with citizens taking to social media and public forums to praise her. Many have urged the federal and state governments to formally honour her and boost funding for education to nurture more young talents like Nafisa.

“She has shown the world that Nigerian students can stand shoulder-to-shoulder with the best globally,” her family stated. “With the right investment and encouragement, our young people can do wonders.”

As Nigeria celebrates Nafisa’s win, her story stands as a powerful reminder of what’s possible when talent, opportunity, and resilience meet.
