After more than two decades in the entertainment industry, South African actress and media personality Khanyi Mbau is finally receiving her flowers on a global stage. Mbau has made history as the first African to be nominated for a Netflix Reality Universe Superlative Award, marking a major career milestone.

The 39-year-old has been nominated in the “Main Character Energy” category for her captivating presence on the reality series Young, Famous & African. Known for her magnetic personality and bold on-screen presence, Mbau now finds herself competing with global reality stars including Harry Jowsey, Jess Vestal, Ryan Serhant, Chrishell Stause, and Jada Mclean.

Taking to social media to announce the nomination, an emotional Mbau shared how significant this moment is for her.

“I have never been nominated for any of my TV work, and this means the world to me,” she told TshisaLIVE. “Been in the industry for over 23 years now, so this is major.”

The Mbau Reloaded star urged her fans to vote daily until July 15 via the link in her bio, saying the recognition represents more than personal achievement.

“Once I win, I plan on bringing it back home to my abundance angels. This win would be a symbol to my girls that giving up is never an option. Someone will recognise your effort one day. Keep going.”

Mbau’s illustrious career spans across acting, presenting, and reality TV. Her credits include Happiness is a Four-letter Word, The Wife, Meet the Khumalos, and her breakout on Young, Famous & African, where she has stood out for her unapologetic authenticity and larger-than-life energy.

Reflecting on her journey, Mbau credited her crossover success to her evolution from actress to reality TV star and influencer.

“I am grateful for the exposure. Professionally, I have met key people who have inspired me to be better, want better, and to also inspire and assist those around me selflessly.”

With this nomination, Mbau not only carves her name into international awards history but also brings global attention to African talent in reality television. As fans rally behind her vote, the moment stands as a powerful reminder of perseverance, passion, and representation.
