In a historic move set to reshape the landscape of public financial oversight across the continent, Morocco has officially been named the permanent host of the African Organization of Supreme Audit Institutions (AFROSAI) headquarters.

The landmark agreement was signed today in Rabat by Moroccan Minister of Foreign Affairs Nasser Bourita and Zineb El Adaoui, First President of Morocco’s Court of Accounts. The decision signals a major stride in advancing African cooperation in public finance governance and institutional transparency.

According to a statement from the Moroccan Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the development reflects Morocco’s firm commitment to strengthening South-South cooperation aligning closely with King Mohammed VI’s vision for African unity and development.

By housing AFROSAI’s permanent headquarters, Morocco positions itself as a leading force in driving good governance, accountability, and transparency across Africa. The Court of Accounts will also serve as the General Secretariat of the organization an acknowledgment of its technical prowess and influential role in audit reform across the continent.

AFROSAI, a pivotal regional body, unites the Supreme Audit Institutions (SAIs) of African nations with the shared mission of promoting peer collaboration, knowledge exchange, and capacity development. It plays a vital role in ensuring the effective use of public resources and strengthening financial discipline in African states.

Hosting the headquarters marks a strategic advancement for Morocco’s institutional diplomacy, reinforcing its role as a cornerstone for structured and sustainable cooperation among African audit bodies.

The move not only deepens Morocco’s integration into continental governance frameworks but also reaffirms its place at the forefront of Africa’s push for accountable development.
