The latest FIFA World Rankings, released on Thursday, July 10, 2025, have brought notable shifts in the African football landscape, reaffirming Morocco’s dominance while exposing the growing volatility among the continent’s elite.

While Argentina, Spain, France, England, and Brazil remain the global top five, all eyes in Africa are fixed on the changing dynamics within the top 10.

Morocco continues to reign supreme, holding on to the 12th spot globally with 1,698.72 points. The Atlas Lions remain Africa’s undisputed football powerhouse, maintaining their momentum and consistency on the international stage.

Senegal emerges as the biggest climber among African teams, moving up to 18th globally and claiming the second spot on the continent. Their rise comes as Egypt, previously ranked second in Africa, slides to 34th in the world, settling for third place.

Meanwhile, Algeria stays steady at 36th worldwide and retains its position as the fourth-best African side. Nigeria, once a dominant force, continues its downward trajectory dropping to 44th place globally and fifth in Africa, raising concerns ahead of upcoming qualifiers.

Further down the list, Tunisia (49th globally), Cameroon (51st), Mali (54th), and South Africa (57th) round out Africa’s top 10, reflecting a tightly packed middle tier with fierce competition for higher continental standings.

As Africa prepares for major tournaments and World Cup qualifiers, the new rankings underscore a shifting tide in African football where consistency, not just talent, is becoming the defining factor of continental supremacy.
