In a bold move to reshape Zambia’s agricultural future, OCP Africa, a subsidiary of the global phosphate leader OCP Group, has entered into two landmark cooperation agreements with the Zambian Ministry of Agriculture and the Industrial Development Corporation (IDC).

The first agreement zeroes in on empowering farmers with cutting-edge tools and knowledge. Central to the plan is the rollout of customized fertilizer solutions, boosted by precision agriculture tools such as digital soil mapping and a Geographic Information System (GIS) platform. These technologies aim to maximize crop yields while promoting environmentally responsible practices tailored to Zambia’s unique soil profiles.

But the partnership doesn’t stop at smallholder support. The second agreement sets the stage for a large-scale commercial farm that doubles as an innovation lab. This flagship site will be a proving ground for new, tailor-made fertilizer formulations and modern farming methods. A standout feature of the initiative is the plan to develop green ammonia production using renewable energy, a game-changer for creating a cleaner, low-carbon fertilizer supply chain in the region.

By aligning innovation with sustainability, OCP Africa is not only bolstering food security and farmer incomes in Zambia but also positioning the country as a regional leader in climate-smart agriculture.

This partnership signals a new era where data-driven, locally-adapted, and environmentally conscious agriculture is no longer an aspiration, but actionable.
