Nadia Fettah Alaoui, Morocco’s Minister of Economy and Finance, has been named Finance Minister of the Year at the 2025 African Banker Awards held in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire.

The prestigious accolade, presented during the African Development Bank’s annual meetings, highlights Fettah Alaoui’s instrumental role in fostering macroeconomic stability and promoting a sustainable investment climate across Morocco. Her leadership has been marked by bold reforms and fiscal discipline aimed at attracting long-term investment and ensuring economic resilience amid global uncertainties.

Appointed in 2021 to lead Morocco’s economic policy under Prime Minister Aziz Akhannouch’s government, Fettah Alaoui brought with her a strong background in business and finance.

A graduate of HEC Paris, she began her career at the multinational consultancy Arthur Andersen before ascending to executive roles in the private sector, including serving as General Manager of Sanlam Pan Africa and later being named CEO of the Year in 2018 by the Africa CEO Forum.

Born in Rabat in 1971, she previously served as Morocco’s Minister of Tourism and is a member of the National Rally of Independents (RNI). Her blend of private sector expertise and public service has made her one of the continent’s most dynamic economic leaders.

The awards ceremony also recognized other prominent African financial figures. Patricia Ojangole, Managing Director of Uganda Development Bank, was named Banker of the Year, while Nigeria’s Central Bank Governor received the Central Bank Governor of the Year title. A Lifetime Achievement Award was bestowed upon Idrissa Nassa, CEO of Coris Bank International, for his enduring impact on Africa’s banking landscape.
