In a bold move to fast-track Namibia’s rise as an offshore energy hub, the National Petroleum Corporation of Namibia (NAMCOR) has inked a landmark Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with global offshore engineering giant Subsea7. The partnership is poised to transform Namibia’s oil and gas sector by building vital infrastructure, fostering local expertise, and unlocking sustainable energy solutions.
The agreement comes on the heels of major offshore oil discoveries and signals a decisive shift from exploration to development. It positions NAMCOR at the forefront of a new era, where world-class technology and homegrown talent converge to drive the country’s energy ambitions.
“These types of strategic partnerships are essential for creating industry synergies as we expand our young oil and gas sector,” said Victoria Sibeya, Acting Managing Director of NAMCOR. “We’re proud to play a leading role in shaping the future of energy in Namibia.”
Under the agreement, Subsea7 will share its global expertise in complex subsea systems, including Subsea, Umbilicals, Risers, and Flowlines (SURF), while also supporting local capacity building. NAMCOR emphasized that the collaboration will spur innovation, improve safety standards, and elevate technical competencies across the value chain.
Steve Tate, Subsea7’s Vice President of Pursuits for Namibia, called the deal a foundation for long-term impact. “This agreement represents a critical milestone in supporting Namibia’s offshore development goals and long-term energy vision.”
As part of its broader strategy, NAMCOR is not only seeking to attract international investment but also ensure that Namibia develops the internal capabilities to fully benefit from its natural resources. The partnership with Subsea7 underscores this commitment marrying infrastructure development with knowledge transfer to fuel a low-carbon, sustainable energy future.
