Petrotec, a European leader in energy solutions with over 40 years of experience, is intensifying its support for Angola’s downstream oil sector by expanding the country’s fuel station network. The company, known for its expertise in fuel station equipment, storage solutions, payment automation, electric mobility, and hydrogen technology, is aligning its innovations with Angola’s strategy to enhance domestic fuel distribution and attract foreign investment.
In 2024, Petrotec hosted a delegation from Angola’s national oil company, Sonangol, at its facilities in Portugal. The visit showcased cutting-edge technologies, including tours of Petrotec’s research and development unit, where the company outlined its vision for next-generation fuel infrastructure. The delegation also explored Petrotec’s innovation and industry center, which highlighted advanced forecourt equipment, and visited the new industrial unit in Póvoa de Lanhoso, set to produce Hellonext’s sophisticated electric vehicle (EV) chargers. Sonangol representatives toured regional fuel station sites, fostering knowledge exchange and strengthening ties between the two entities.
Angola, one of Africa’s largest oil producers, is prioritizing downstream expansion to reduce reliance on imported petroleum products, which cost the country approximately $2 billion annually. The government is advancing major refinery projects, including the Cabinda Refinery (30,000 barrels per day, set to be fully operational by July 2025), the Lobito Refinery (200,000 bpd, targeting 2027), and the Soyo Refinery (100,000 bpd, expected in 2025). Additionally, infrastructure projects like the Soyo integrated terminal and the Kwanza Terminal Pipeline Routes aim to bolster regional distribution by 2026 and 2029, respectively. These developments align with Angola’s goal of achieving over 400,000 bpd in refining capacity, enhancing fuel security and positioning the country as a regional petroleum hub.
Petrotec’s growing presence in Angola reflects international confidence in the country’s petroleum market and its efforts to modernize fuel mobility infrastructure. The company’s solutions, which span the entire mobility value chain, are poised to support Angola’s ambitions. “Petrotec leverages innovation and technology to strengthen mobility and seeks to support Angola’s downstream expansion through new mobility solutions,” said a company spokesperson.
As a silver sponsor of the Angola Oil & Gas (AOG) 2025 conference, scheduled for September 3-4 in Luanda, Petrotec will showcase its advanced mobility solutions to global energy leaders. AOG, the largest oil and gas event in Angola, is supported by the Ministry of Mineral Resources, Oil and Gas, Sonangol, the National Oil, Gas and Biofuels Agency, the Petroleum Derivatives Regulatory Institute, and the African Energy Chamber. The conference, marking Angola’s 50th anniversary of independence, will serve as a critical platform for deal-making and fostering strategic partnerships. Petrotec’s participation is expected to drive collaboration among industry stakeholders, advancing Angola’s evolving energy sector.
The AOG 2025 event will feature a multi-track agenda covering upstream exploration, downstream advancements, and regulatory frameworks, with over 2,500 attendees from 40 countries anticipated. Petrotec’s role underscores its commitment to Angola’s fuel mobility expansion, positioning the company as a key player in the country’s downstream development.
