In a decisive move to address youth unemployment and skills development, the Republic of Niger and the Swiss Confederation have signed two pivotal agreements aimed at equipping young Nigeriens with practical education and employability tools.

The accords, signed Wednesday in Niamey by Niger’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Bakary Yaou Sangaré, and the Deputy Head of the Swiss Cooperation Office, mark a strategic shift in bilateral cooperation placing youth empowerment at the center of development priorities.

The first agreement initiates the implementation of the “GUANI” program, a comprehensive initiative focused on technical and vocational training for Nigerien youth. By strengthening professional competencies, the program aims to prepare young people for meaningful participation in the local and regional job markets.

The second signing marked the amendment of the existing Education Quality Support Program (PAQUE III), reaffirming Switzerland’s commitment to enhancing the quality of education in Niger. Amendment No. 3 builds upon previous successes, expanding the reach and impact of educational initiatives nationwide.

Together, these agreements represent a unified effort to combat the dual challenges of youth unemployment and limited access to quality education. As both countries reaffirm their cooperation, the partnership highlights a forward-looking vision: one where education is not only a right but a strategic tool for economic resilience and national growth.
