Egypt Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources has activated a pre-established emergency plan, prioritizing strategic gas allocation and reinforcing the electricity grid.

In a decisive move, the ministry confirmed that three Floating Storage Regasification Units (FSRUs) have arrived in Egypt. One is already operational, regasifying and feeding natural gas into the national grid. The remaining two are undergoing final connection procedures at Egyptian ports and are expected to be online soon.

To reduce pressure on the gas network and prevent power shortages, the government has suspended gas supply to selected industrial operations. Instead, it is maximizing the use of mazut in power stations and coordinating diesel use at key facilities. These measures aim to ensure continued electricity supply and safeguard critical infrastructure until eastern gas flows resume.

“The Natural Gas Network's operations room is monitoring the situation around the clock, with the network remaining secure and sufficient reserves of mazut in place,” the ministry stated.

In a show of high-level coordination, the Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources and the Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy jointly visited the National Gas Control Center to review implementation progress. The Petroleum Minister also visited Sokhna Port to accelerate the final connection of the third FSRU.

Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly held an emergency meeting with both ministers to assess updates and reinforce the government's commitment to uninterrupted energy services across Egypt.

This rapid deployment of floating regasification units signals Egypt’s preparedness to maintain energy security amid regional instability.
