Nigeria Partners GalaxySpace to leverage space technology
Nigeria’s National Space Research and Development Agency (NASRDA) has signed a strategic Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with China’s leading satellite firm, GalaxySpace, aimed at closing the connectivity gap and accelerating Africa’s digital transformation.
The agreement marks a pivotal shift in Nigeria’s efforts to leverage space technology for national growth, with a strong focus on deploying small satellite systems to extend high-speed internet access to underserved and remote communities.
NASRDA Director-General, Dr. Matthew Adepoju, described the partnership as a “critical national assignment,” emphasizing that the success of this initiative could redefine access to digital services and information for millions of Nigerians.
GalaxySpace Senior Manager, Mr. Sam Xiao, echoed the sentiment, expressing confidence in Nigeria’s potential to become a regional leader in satellite internet deployment.
By combining Nigeria’s ambition with China’s advanced satellite manufacturing expertise, the collaboration aims to provide resilient and affordable satellite-based internet solutions essential for driving education, healthcare, e-commerce, and innovation across Africa.
The MoU is not only a boost to Nigeria’s space and digital infrastructure but also a statement of intent: to make technology a cornerstone of inclusive growth and socio-economic development across the continent.
