In a strategic push to fortify its agrifood sector, Morocco has launched a bold initiative to embed intellectual property (IP) protection at the heart of industry growth and export readiness.

The Moroccan Office of Industrial and Commercial Property (OMPIC) and the National Federation of Agri-Food (FENAGRI) have signed a groundbreaking partnership agreement in Casablanca to elevate the role of IP in boosting innovation, brand protection, and international competitiveness.

This alliance comes at a pivotal moment as Moroccan agri-food companies seek to scale their operations and assert greater influence in African and global markets. By strengthening the legal and strategic use of intangible assets, the agreement positions IP not just as a legal safeguard but as a catalyst for economic transformation.

The pact outlines a comprehensive roadmap that includes awareness campaigns, sector-specific training, and tailored support to help companies develop robust IP portfolios covering trademarks, patents, industrial designs, trade names, and databases. These efforts aim to empower local businesses to protect their innovations and leverage them as key tools for market differentiation.

Speaking at a workshop organized to launch the initiative, stakeholders emphasized that the ability to secure and manage industrial property is now a defining factor in global trade. “Innovation without protection is a lost opportunity,” said one speaker, highlighting how strategic IP management can unlock new revenue streams and strengthen Morocco’s value proposition as an agrifood exporter.

This collaboration underscores Morocco’s long-term vision of building a knowledge-based economy where intellectual property rights play a central role in supporting sustainable growth.
