At the heart of Tunisia’s new export offensive is a clear ambition: to reposition itself not just as a North African player, but as a continental connector in Africa’s evolving value chains.

The country is targeting $518 million in additional trade opportunities across sub-Saharan Africa, building on the momentum of its $550 million trade volume with the region recorded in 2024.

Tunisian Minister of Trade and Export Development, Samir Abid, emphasized that exports already account for $425 million of this figure, marking a robust 9.7% annual growth over the past decade. Now, Tunisia wants more than numbers; it wants influence, partnerships, and a permanent place in Africa’s industrial future.

The strategy was unveiled at a high-level forum organized by CEPEX (Tunisian Export Promotion Center), drawing more than 150 economic actors, including 85 Tunisian firms and trade representatives from 13 African countries.

The event also attracted five major continental trade promotion organizations, regional chambers of commerce, diplomatic corps, and development partners, underscoring Tunisia’s growing reputation as a strategic bridge between North and sub-Saharan Africa.

As a signatory of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) since 2018, Tunisia is leveraging its status to pursue market diversification and regional industrial integration. The message from Tunis is clear: Africa’s future will be built by Africans, and Tunisia intends to help lead the way.
